More on Defending 4-A Champs Southwest Guilford Cowgirls over Eastern Guilford from last night at SWG

Defending State Champion Southwest Guilford defeated Eastern Guilford 67-52 in a
game that was close at the half 32-31 in favor of the State Champs. The young
Eastern Guilford squad which was the last team to defeat the defending champs on
their home court 60-45 by an amazing performance by NC Preps All State,Guilford
County All Area Player of the Year, Conference Player of the Year, Conference
Tournament MVP and Stony Brook signee Miranda Jenkins whom scored 27 points, 12
rebounds, 8 steals, 6 assists, 5 blocks showed great promise as they battled the
Champs. However Southwest Guilford experience of Zena Lovette and Jessica Pone proved
to be too much for the Wildcats as both scored 15 points apiece and had several
steals against several of the inexperience Wildcats backcourt. Southwest Guilford
used a 19-4 run in the third quarter to take command of the game. Junior guard Aja
Mott hit a couple of three pointers and conrtibuted 8 points in a reserve
role. Sophomore Briana Burgins picked up where she left off last year by adding 10
point. Steady Shanel Lawrence drilled some of her well placed jump shots to finish
with 13 points. Eastern Guilford was led by Karima Jackson with 13 and Whitney
Parks with 11 points. Sophomore Carol Alston had 10 rebounds to tie junior guard
Erica Olerich whom also had 10 rebounds.

  1. The Eastern Guilford and Soutwest Guilford game was a nice game to go to for both boys and girls. A very nice size packed gym crowd that showed great sportsmanship on both sides.
