PITTMAN’S HOT SHOOTING LEADS GUILFORD PAST AVERETT, 90-56

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Josh Pittman scored 16 of his game-high 29 points in the first half to lead Guilford College to a 90-56 basketball win over visiting Averett University Tuesday night.

Pittman, who shot 7-11 from the field and 9-9 from the free throw line, led the way for the hot shooting Quakers. Guilford as a team shot 53 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line. He drilled one of his six three-pointers as the first half expired to extend the Quakers lead to 43-29.

Averett had trouble keeping pace with Guilford and only managed 37 percent shooting from the field for the game and 54 percent from the charity stripe.

Senior Gabriel Lowder scored 12 points and was the only other Quaker in double-digits. Sophomore Carson Sullivan added eight points and had team-highs with eight rebounds and five assists. Guilford’s bench contributed 32 points on the evening and 13 different student-athletes scored for the Quakers.

Averett’s Justin Pierce led the Cougars with 19 points, 12 in the first half. Marquis Scott and Sunil Ram added 10 and 12 points respectively. Grant Chandler came off the bench to score 10 points and also grabbedg a team-high five boards.

Guilford hits the road next Wednesday (11/30) after the Thanksgiving break for a non-conference game against N.C. Wesleyan. The game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
