Big First Half Propels Greensboro College Women’s Basketball Past Methodist, 57-4

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The #14 nationally ranked Greensboro College women’s basketball team jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead and cruised home for a 57-41 win over Methodist on Wednesday. Preseason All-American, Danielle Duncan, helped pace the attack with her third double-double in four games this season, scoring 24 points to go along with ten rebounds. Bianca Richburg also had a big double-double performance with 12 points and 18 rebounds.

The Pride jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but saw the Monarchs race back to go on top 12-10 at the 11:44 mark. Duncan jumpstarted a 15-1 Greensboro run with two free throws. The spurt lasted nearly four minutes and gave The Pride a 25-13 advantage.

Greensboro would extend the lead out to 32-18 before checking in at the half with a 35-23 lead. By that time, Duncan had already racked up 14 points and eight boards while Bianca Richburg followed close behind with eight points and seven rebounds.

The lead woud grow to as large as 45-28 in the second half as The Pride stayed perfect on the season with a 57-41 final.

Greensboro finished the night shooting 37.3% from the field. The Pride stifled the Methodist offense, limiting the Monarchs to 23.1% shooting, including 15.4% from three. Greensboro also held a decisive 51-39 advantage on the boards.

Richburg’s individual total of 18 rebounds places her in a tie for fifth on the school’s all-time single game rebounding list. Kim Enoch holds the record of 25, which was set against Piedmont on November 19, 2004.

The Pride improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in USA South play with the victory. Greensboro, who moved up one spot to #14 in the D3Hoops.com national rankings this week, will host Mary Baldwin at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Hanes Gym.
