Memories of Mike Harris, former local basketball player and coach

We still get comments coming in from people that remember the influence that Mike Harris had on the local basketball scene, whether it be at the ‘Y’, or on the AAU level or with any local rec league team…..Mike is missed and today his old friend Allan Hild checks with a memory of Mike….

Mike was a great guy, great coach and great friend. He was part of our team, our coach, for our City League team back in the 90?s. For 2 summers & 2 winters we won the City Championship – me, Gene, Haywood, Don, Terrell, and a just a few others. Those were great times! I’ll miss him. RIP Mike.

*****We concur. RIP Mike Harris……*****

  1. Great man! Still remember talking to him almost on a daily basis about youth basketball in Greensboro even after leaving the Y to go and teach with Guilford County Schools. He affected so many kids in a positive way that it inspires me daily to do the same! RIP Hawk…..

  2. I really miss talking to my big brother everyday.I have never seen anyone with his knowledge, passion, accomplishments, and the will to teach for basketball.i regret not keeping a log of all his teams from the parks, city league,YMCA,and AAU.I miss him as a person the most.He impacted my life tremendously & I can only imagine how much he did to others he coached.
I like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts of him. R.I.P. COACH MIKE HARRIS “HAWK”
