Oak Hill returned to action Wednesday night after a ten day Thanksgiving
break and the Warriors enjoyed an impressive 96-46 victory over Thomasville
Prep (NC). The Warriors finished the month of November with a stellar 11-0
record and will travel to Benton, Kentucky to play in the Marshall County
Hoop Fest this coming Friday and Saturday. Oak Hill will play a demanding
fourteen games in the month of December. The upcoming schedule will help
define the current Oak Hill team and will allow Coach Steve Smith the
opportunity to gauge this year’s team to prior teams. Simply put, the month
of December will be a barometer for the 2011-12 Oak Hill team.
In the game against Thomasville Prep, Oak Hill simply used his overwhelming
depth and talent for the impressive 96-46 victory. Seven Oak Hill players
finished in double digits scoring and PG Tyler Lewis dished out 10 assists.
Leading the way for Oak Hill was 6’5 WG Jordan Adams with 15 points. He went
5-8 from the floor and made 4-4 from the free throw line as he extended his
free throw shooting to 24-24 for the season. Jordan also recorded 6
rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks and dished out 1 assist for a solid all
around performance for the Warriors. 7’0 C AJ Hammons also enjoyed a solid
night and graded out first by tallying 12 points going 6-8 from the floor
and 1-2 from the free throw line. Hammons corralled 6 rebounds and blocked 5
shots while dishing out 1 assist for the game. Junior WG RJ Curington
continued his “microwave” performance with 13 points going 5-10 from the
floor and 2-3 from the free throw line. He tied Jordan Tebbutt with a team
high 7 rebounds and had 3 steals and 3 assists. 6’6 PF Darion Clark finished
with 13 points going 6-7 from the field and 1-2 from the free throw line.
Clark finished with 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. 6’3 SG D’Vauntes Smith
Rivera chipped in 12 points going 4-12 from the field and 4-5 from the free
throw line. He too was active in other categories as he grabbed 3 rebounds
and recorded 3 steals and dished out 6 assists for the game. 6’6 WF Damien
“Dr. Dunk” Wilson tallied 10 points going 5-9 from the field as he
appropriately earned his nickname with 5 dunks for the game. Wilson had 1
rebound, 3 steals and 2 assists for the night. 6’7 PF Montarius Hall
returned to action after sitting out with a shoulder injury and his presence
was felt immediately. He too was in double digits scoring with 10 points
going 5-7 from the floor. Hall grabbed 5 rebounds and 2 steals for the game.
Rounding out the scoring for Oak Hill was 6’6 PF Jordan Tebbutt with 7
points. Tebbutt went 3-7 from the floor and tied for team rebounding honors
with 7 boards. He also had 2 blocks and 2 assists for the game. 5’11 PG
Tyler Lewis had a quiet game scoring wise and finished with 2 points. Lewis
dished out a team high 10 assists while committing 1 turnover. He also had 2
rebounds and 3 steals. 6’2 Junior PG Ike Iroegbu played well and contributed
2 points while getting 1 rebound and dishing out 2 assists.
For the game, Oak Hill shot 53% going 41-77 from the floor and made 11-19
free throws for 58%. The big difference in the game was defensively as the
Warriors grabbed 42 rebounds and blocked 10 shots. Oak Hill created 19
turnovers by steals and the pressure defense was back to pre-season form.
More importantly, Oak Hill had 27 assists for the game while only committing
7 turnovers. The 27 assists were the third highest team assist total for the
season and looking at the statistics 8 players recorded assists which is
impressive for a talented team like Oak Hill. It is not often, you will find
players to buy into the team first attitude, but Coach Steve Smith has done
an excellent job in getting the players to making the extra pass. There is
no question about the old saying, “Team work makes the dream work.”
Oak Hill is now 11-0 on the season and travel to Benton, Kentucky to play in
the Marshall County Hoop Fest. As we stated earlier, the month of December
will be a great barometer of this year’s team.

Is Tprep legit? I see no box scores in the paper and the school website is horrible. We will do anything to play hoops. Folks, it’s not that serious. I would cuss my pops out if he would have suggested I go there to play ball. II would say “it’s okay dad, I rather go to GTCC and leave home.”
