GREENSBORO, N.C. – Will Freeman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Richmond Senior (N.C.)) and Josh Pittman (Archdale, N.C./Trinity) both scored 16 points in Guilford College’s 66-53 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Randolph-Macon College Saturday afternoon.

Freeman hit for 14 points and Pittman added 10 in a decisive first half that saw the Quakers (7-2, 2-1 ODAC) open a 41-27 halftime lead. Guilford made better than 65 percent of its shots and held the Yellow Jackets (6-3, 2-2 ODAC) to 37 percent shooting. The Quakers’ Gabriel Lowder (Yadkinville, N.C./North Forsyth) scored all five of his points in a key stretch late in the second half that saw Guilford build a three-point edge into an 11-point advantage.
Both teams tightened up defensively in the second half. Randolph-Macon limited Guilford to less than 26 percent shooting from the floor. Freeman and Pittman combined for eight second-half points after totaling 26 points together in the first half. Connor Sullivan’s (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day School) free throw capped a 7-0 Randolph-Macon run that drew the Yellow Jackets to within 56-50 with 5:22 remaining. Guilford answered with strong defense of its own and held Randolph-Macon to a Jamie Robinson (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) three-pointer in the final five minutes and closed the game on a 10-3 run.

Robinson paced the Yellow Jackets with 14 points off the bench. Senior Adam Desgain (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, but shot just five-of-12 from the floor. Randolph-Macon’s leading scorer, sophomore Andre Simon (Newport News, Va./Menchville) , managed two points in 23 minutes off the bench, 12 below his season average.
Guilford’s Carson Sullivan (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian (Pennsylvania)) contributed nine points, six boards and an assist in his first college matchup against his brother, Connor. Brad Monroe (Asheboro, N.C./Eastern Randolph) chipped in eight points and grabbed a game-high 11 points. The Quakers held Randolph-Macon to 34.5 percent shooting from the floor and held a 44-35 rebounding advantage.

The Quakers host Maryville (Tenn.) College next Saturday (12/17) at 3:00 p.m. in a nonconference game.
