HS Basketball Players ‘flying under the radar’ that have or soon will be ‘starting to rise'(Jordan Weethee is one of those, was at HPCA and now at VMI and ‘On the Rise”)

We featured Jordan Weethee(High Point Christian Academy/Page HS) yesterday and we were telling you about his work this season, as a freshman at VMI…..We noted that Jordan had 18 points for the Keydets in a road game at Pittsburgh, against the Pitt Panthers last week…..The kid has always been able to nail the three and the three spot has always been a good spot for him….He is doing one heck of a job for Virginia Military Academy(VMI) and we saw it in him when he was over at Page, a few years back and after his stay at HPCA, he is on his way at VMI, up in Lexington, Virginia……

Rick Lewis and The Phenom Hoop Report saw what Jordan could do and what he had the potential to do, while Jordan was at HPCA and they steered him toward VMI, along with HPCA coach Brandon Clifford’s guidance too…..

Check out today’s Phenom Hoop Report with Rick Lewis and look back and then look ahead, at the game of Jordan Weethee and other young basketball players that are ‘Flying Under the Radar’ and they are getting ready to take off, ‘On the Rise’…..

Phenom Hoop Report

Scouting Report: Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Event: North Carolina “Under the Radar” Part 2

Evaluator: Rick Lewis

Twitter: @Coach_Rick57

Phenom Quote of the Day: “”Make the present good, and the past will take
care of itself.”(Knute Rockne)

Phenom Hoop Report Philosophy: “Balanced, thorough and detailed evaluations
based upon the 3 P’s philosophy of Performance, Production, and Potential”

One of the more enjoyable things in life is having the opportunity to help
young prospects reach their goals and dreams. Last spring, we were able to
do just that with 6’6 senior Jordan Weethee of High Point Christian. Weethee
missed his junior season due to a knee injury and we got several chances to
watch him play. We always thought Weethee was a solid D1 prospect, but was
getting little to no attention at the time. While he was putting up strong
numbers for Coach Brandon Clifford of High Point Christian, his senior
season passed without any D1 offers. . Fortunately for Weethee, VMI of the
Big South is one school that subscribes to the Phenom Hoop Report. VMI was
looking for a WF that can shoot the 3 point shot. My first thought was
Jordan Weethee of High Point Christian as I’ve watched him knock down 9
three pointers in one game. To make a long story short, VMI contacted Coach
Clifford and were able to set up a workout for the talented 6’6 WF. After
watching him work out, they immediately invited him to the campus and
eventually he received a scholarship offer. Today, Jordan Weethee is
averaging 16 minutes per game for VMI and is averaging 9.8 PPG. Without
question, Weethee is making a strong contribution as a freshman and looks to
be a future standout in the Big South.

Today, we are going to take a look at other promising prospects that have D1
potential plus players “On the Rise.” In our first issue of Players under
the Radar, we featured senior PG

Shivaughn Wiggins of North Mecklenburg High School Wiggins is having a
monster senior season and may well be the player of the year in the
Charlotte Mecklenburg area.

Player on the Rise

Player: 5’10 PG Shivaughn Wiggins

School: North Mecklenburg HS

City: Huntersville, NC

Class: 2012

You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix4Ls0isG4g
Comments: Coach Duane Lewis of North Mecklenburg High School in
Huntersville, North Carolina is one of the best high school basketball
coaches in the state. He has produced many D1 prospects at every level and
this year is no exception with his senior PG Shivaughn Wiggins. Wiggins is
enjoying an outstanding start to the season. After a solid junior season
where Wiggins averaged 13.3 PPG, 7.3 APG, and 3.4 steals per game, he is now
playing the role of a scoring PG and a good one at that. Currently, Wiggins
is averaging 25 PPG and 6.5 APG and over 3 steals per game. These statistics
are outstanding for the level of competition he is playing. North
Mecklenburg HS is in the 4A classification for the state of North Carolina.
Wiggins plays with a confidence that is second to none. He is a fierce
competitor and will not back down from a challenge. He is an excellent on
the ball defender and has quick hands and feet. He has a solid foundation of
team defense and anticipates nicely for steals. On the offensive end of the
court, he is an outstanding ball handler. He dribbles with a low stance and
has his head always up looking for the next pass to an open teammate. He has
an uncanny ability to see a play one step ahead and his advanced ball
handling skills makes him one difficult player to defend. He has good ball
speed and quickness and utilizes the hesitation move effectively to keep
defenders off balance. He changes speed extremely well and has the ability
to create his own shot off the dribble. Wiggins sports a nice mid range pull
up jumper and has perfected the tear drop floater in the lane. Without
question, Wiggins is a PG D1 schools should take a hard long look at,
especially in the North Carolina area. If not, we will be reading about
another player that was “snatched” away from his own back yard. For more

Player on the Rise

Player: 6’3 JT Miller

School: Clinton HS

City: Clinton, NC

Class: 2012

Comments: We have written extensively about JT Miller in the past and
without question is one of our favorite players. He has attended the NC
Phenom 150 Evaluation Camp on several occasions and we have watched him play
regularly in AAU this past spring/summer. Miller has elite level athleticism
and may be one of the premier athletes in the state of North Carolina. His
leaping ability reminds me of current Baylor player Deuce “Dunk on You”
Bello. Miller played much of this summer with “jumper’s knee” and was not
100%. That being said, Miller enjoyed a solid summer but elected to play on
a local AAU team vs. more prestigious AAU name brand teams. Miller is
having a spectacular senior season and his stock is currently on the rise.
He is averaging 27.5 PPG and an equally impressive 11.4 RPG. He has solid
ball handling and passing skills as we have reported in the past and is
dishing out 7.5 assist per game. More importantly, he is shooting 61% for
the season going 31-51 from the floor. He has hit 16-19 free throws for an
impressive 84%. We have always felt Miller has a borderline prospect between
a MM+/HM- candidate and if he improved his outside shooting he could become
a HM prospect. Miller is a dedicated player on and off the court. His work
ethic in the classroom is equivalent to his work ethic on the basketball
court. Miller proudly holds a 3.6 GPA and made 1350 on his SAT score. When
you think of the term “student athlete,” one need to look no further than
Clinton’s own JT Miller!

Player: 5’11 PG Kevin Reinemund

School: Forsyth Country Day

City: Lewisville, NC

Class: 2012

Comments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68B6aKAvbTY I’ve had the pleasure
of knowing Kevin Reinemund for the past 4 years and it has been fun to watch
the steady improvement in his game. He has always been known as an
exceptional 3 point shooter and a fundamentally sound player. Reinemund had
one of the strongest work ethics of anyone I’ve come across in a long time.
Here is a young man that eats, sleeps, and works at his game! He has always
been fundamentally sound and was one of those players that could do any
drill like he was the drill master himself. The only thing lacking in his
game was game experience and confidence. With the departure of his friend
and backcourt mate Tyler Lewis, Reinemund has stepped up to the challenge of
being the team leader for a very good FCDS team. Reinemund has enjoyed
instant success and is averaging 22 PPG and 7 APG and enjoyed a career high
of 34 points already this season. While we have generally stated he would
be a major contributor at the D3 level and even the D2 level, he may just be
playing his way into getting serious D1 interest. Reinemund is another
example of the term “student athlete” and is an outstanding young man. If
someone is looking for a quality young man that will continue to put work in
to improve and get better, you may want to check him out.

Player: 6’1 PG Colton Bishop

School: Forsyth Country Day

City: Lewisville, NC

Class: 2014

Comments: We really feel Bishop will be a solid D1 prospect and is finally
coming out of his shell. Bishop is a “gym rat” that has good size and skill.
He has long arms and is fundamentally sound player that simply understands
the game. He has excellent basketball IQ and is a “lights out” shooter from
the 3 point line. He is currently averaging 12 PPG and had a season high of
23 against a very solid Providence Day team. His skill sets are advanced for
his age/grade and with game experience and confidence this season, there is
no doubt in my mind that he will be a solid D1 prospect. In addition to
being an outstanding player, he is equally an outstanding person.

Player: 6’4 Dawud Salamm

School: Crossroads Charter

City: Charlotte, NC (transfer from Atlanta)

Class: 2012

Comments: Salamm has good size and athleticism, but is an excellent ball
handler and pure shooter. He is very explosive and has tremendous bounce.
Salamm should be a solid MM+ prospect. According to his high coach, he is
very coachable. He is receiving some D1 interest and JUCO interest due to
past issues. He is a gym rat and his coach stated “he is an excellent
teammate on and off the floor.” Salamn has a good understanding of the game
and is putting up good numbers for the season. He is averaging 17 PPG, 5 RPB
and 5 steals.

Player: 5’11 Marcus Johnson

School: Crossroads Charter

City: Charlotte, NC

Class: 2014

Comments: Go ahead and put his young man in your memory bank! Johnson is
extremely quick and is a true pass first PG with the ability to score at
will when needed. He is a ball hawk on defense and is a great leader on
offense. He has tremendous ball handling skills and is very fast with the
ball. He has good range and can consistently knock down the open 3 point
shot. He is a crafty PG that has a competitive edge and hates to lose. He is
already getting D1 looks, but look for that to change in the very near
future. He is currently averaging 15 PPG and 6 APG.

Player: 6’6 Raheem Watts

School: Crossroads Charter

City: Charlotte, NC (transferred from Greenville, SC)

Class: 2013

Comments: Watt is a junior WF that has tremendous athleticism. More
importantly, he has excellent range on his jumper, but has the ability to
put the ball on the floor and aggressively attack the basket. His jumper
seems effortless and has nice form and technique. His coach stated “Watts is
a gym rat and works on his game at any chance he can get.” While he is an
offensive threat and is averaging 10 PPG, his biggest strength may come on
the defensive end of the floor. He is long and athletic and has quick
lateral movement. He is getting solid D1 interest at the current time, but
watch for his stock to rise over the season and through the spring/summer.

Player on the Rise

Player: 6’4 Braxdton Norheart

School: Crossroads Charter

City: Charlotte, NC

Class: 2014

Comments: Braxdton Norheart is a promising young sophomore. He is a great
athlete and combines it with a great shooting touch! He is a pure shooter
with unlimited range. Northeart is a young player that loves to compete and
plays equally hard on the defensive end of the court as the offensive end.
He is a ball hawk on defense and you can easily tell he “loves to get up in
the opposing player’s shirt” Norheart is an excellent rebounder for his
position. His coach stated “Braxdton is very coachable and helpful to others
on the team to make them better.” He is currently averaging 12 PPG and 6
RPG. Schools in the CAA and the A10 should definitely make this young man a
priority.

Player: 6’2 Jeremy Wallace

School: Crossroad Charter

City: Charlotte, NC

Class: 2013

Comments: Wallace is another tremendous athlete, but also sports a nice
looking jump shot. He has great leaping ability and can be a lock down
defender. According to his high school coach, “Wallace is our Dennis
Rodman.” He is the one guy who will dive on the floor for loose balls and
give 100% effort. Wallace was recently selected as the Game Changer for
Nike’s House of Hoops in Charlotte, NC. Wallace has a high motor that is
endless. He is currently averaging 11 PPG. He is currently a borderline
player between D2 and D1, but with his work ethic and improvement, he could
garnish more interest at the D1 level.

Player on the Rise

Player: 6’3 Jarvis Haywood

School: Harding High School

City: Charlotte, NC

Class: 2012

Comments: We first wrote about Haywood two year ago at the Bob Gibbons TOC.
At that time, we correctly pegged him as a MM+ prospect. That was two years
ago! The former Winthrop commit opened up his recruitment and is having a
banner year for Harding HS. Haywood is a hard nose player that simply gets
the job done. He can score and rebound extremely well for his position. He
has the ability to put the ball on the floor and can also slide over at the
high school level and play the PG position. He has solid ball handling
abilities and is an above average passer. He does all the little things that
helps a team win. He is now being recruited by schools in the CAA, A10 and
is even getting interest from a few HM schools.

In tomorrow’s issue of the Phenom Hoop Report, we will take a close look at
other players on the rise and under the radar.
