Southwest took the short trip over to face city rival Andrews High School. In the
first matchup earlier in the season, the Cowboys were able to hand the Red Raiders
their only loss of the season up to that point. This time the Cowboys were would try
to repeat the same outcome on the road. The Cowboys once again used quick spurts and
transition baskets to jump out 12-6 early, but the Red Raiders cut it to 13-10 at
the end of the first. The battle continued as the second frame opened, trading the
first few baskets. Then the Cowboys used speed to turn up the pressure and got ahead
by 11, at 29-18. The Raiders fought back hard with an 8-0 run to cut it to 29-26.
The resilient Cowboys answered in a big way quickly. With 5 seconds to go, the
Cowboys got a bucket and were fouled. Terrell Leach rebounded the miss and was able
to pull the ball out and drill a buzzer beating 3 to close the frame at 34-26. If
you like quality basketball, you would have changed the channel during the third
quarter. In a sloppy 8 minutes that saw turnovers in abundance, the Cowboys only out
scored the Raiders 10-8, making the tally 44-34. In the final period, the Cowboys
kept the lead steadily around 10, and even pulling it out to as many as 17. The home
squad scratched away and the final mark was 63-46 as the Cowboys were just too much
for the Raiders. Andrews was paced by Jalen Ford with his 14 and DJ Neal’s 12
points. Once again the Cowboys had 4 players in double figures: Saxton Cotton (16),
Jordan Hanner (14), Terrell Leach (12), and Brandon Clyburn (11).
