HS Wrestling from Thursday evening

from the Jim Horney Tournament at Southern Guilford ….

NWG wins it all and in what had to be a great match Jacob McCann from Northeast Guilford topped Jason Leonard from Northwesst Guilford 7-5 in the 220 pound weight class….Two outstanding high school wrestlers here…..Curtis Smith, another quality wrestler from NWG took the title at 195….Bishop McGuinness had a number of top performers in this tournament and the Villains Patrick O’Shea was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the event……Matt Millaway, light but strong for NEG at 138 was one more notable winner from the finals of the tournament….

Very good tournament in honor of Mr. Jim Horney, who wrestled for Ragsdale, but coached at Southern Guilford….I thinkk he had a brother, Steve Horney, at 126, who was also an outstanding wrestler for Ragsdale…….

Good job by all the grapplers at the tournament…..

  1. the match between mccann an leonard was seacond in a row mccann comming out on top last week also 5 to 3 mccann is 20and 0 so far this year
he also wrestled heavy weight 285 and he dresses out at 210 that says alot and leonard is his just as good and good on his feet

  2. Those fellows there, McCann, Leonard, Curtis Smith, Matt Millaway and others, they are some of the best around the Triad/State…….

  3. What about that performance from the Bishop McGuinness wrestlers? They had 4 kids in the finals and won 2 of them including the MOW at 152 pounds. Not bad for a little 1A school against the big Guilford schools.
