  1. Everyone in Forsyth County basketball understands that the Champion Bracket is the top tier bracket and the teams that are not as strong play in the Pepsi Bracket. The teams in the Pepsi Bracket understand this also. It is not anything that people debate. And Andy is right in that West Stokes winning it was a complete shock to everyone and a major upset as Winston-Salem Prep has three D1 prospects all underclassment including the #28 ranked player in the country in the McLendon kid. I believe 6 players for Winston-Salem Prep fouled out and the coach was not too happy with the officiating based on his comments in the paper.

  2. As a West Stokes Alum I am shocked by hearing you say major upset. I believe West Stokes has beaten WS Prep 4 of the last 5 times they have played with the only loss being in last year’s conference tournament championship game. West Stokes is a very underrated team and everyone thinks they are not good because they lost 4 starters from last year’s team. Everyone says the Northwest 1a-2a is a bad conference but coaching wise I’d say it’s one of the best. Yes you don’t have many D-1 players but the kids on those teams are more coachable than a lot of other kids on higher profile teams. As for the officiating WS Prep always says they never foul but as a spectator and someone that has coached against them they foul almost every single play. They’re very good at adjusting to the officiating but they have a lot more talent than W. Stokes so they should have won regardless. They weren’t prepared or they thought the game was in the bag. These 2 teams will have at least 2 more battles this year and they should both be fun. Finally, everyone in the area knows how good of a coach Dan Spainhour is so never underestimate their teams.

  3. I guess I should rephrase. I was not downgrading West Stokes. I think it was an upset that the #7 seed West Stokes knocked off the teams that it did to get that far, and I think most fans thought N. Forsyth, Mt. Tabor, Winston-Salem Prep, or Reagan (who recently beat Dudley) would likely win the tournament. It was an upset based on W. Stokes being the #7 seeded team in the tournament. Wouldn’t that qualify as an upset? Yes, the coaching in that conference is very good I agree. I was not trying to downgrade your alma mater.

  4. It’s cool, I’m cool with calling it an upset but a major upset or complete shock is a little crazy. Even though West is a 2A school they compete with the best forsyth county has. no offense taken, just wanted to get some respect for a school that rarely gets recognition.
