Greensboro Women’s Basketball Defeats NC Wesleyan, Stays Perfect in Conference Play

Three players posted double figures, led by Chevana Pickard’s 21, as the #21 nationally ranked Greensboro women’s basketball team posted its highest point total of the season with a 76-55 victory over the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan.

Despite shooting 48% from the floor in the first half, The Pride only held a six point lead going into the break. The teams played close early in the half and the game was tied at 14-14, twelve minutes in. Greensboro put together a 16-5 run to grab their biggest lead of the first half at 11, but the Bishops made a strong surge before halftime, going on a 9-0 run of their own to close the gap to two.

The Pride came out firing on all cylinders, scoring the first ten points of the second half and never looking back. A lay-up by Danielle Duncan at the 12:54 mark, pushed the lead to 20, and another lay-up by Duncan gave The Pride their biggest lead, 29, three minutes later. Greensboro shot 48% from the floor in the game.

Ten players scored for The Pride in their 21 point victory, including transfer Dorian McGinnis. In addition to Pickard’s 21, Duncan added 12 and Bianca Richburg chipped in with ten. Andrienne Terrell grabbed a team high 11 rebounds and dished out seven assists.

The Pride are now 7-1 overall on the season with the victory and 4-0 in USA South play. Greensboro will host Meredith on Sunday at 2 p.m.
