Second Half Slump Dooms Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Against Maryville

The Pride men’s basketball team saw a ten point halftime lead evaporate in a 106-96 overtime loss at Maryville. The Scots tied the game with 16 seconds to go in regulation on a three-point bucket by Wesley Lambert and outscored Greensboro 14-4 in the extra session to pull off the comeback.

The Pride wasted little time getting to work in the first half, jumping out to a ten point lead at the 13:28 point following a trey by Devonta Davis. The score capped off a 10-2 Greensboro spurt. The Pride continued to lay it on, going up by as many as 21 points at 44-23 with 4:54 remaining in the frame.

Things started going south for Greensboro after that point, as Maryville finished out the half on a 17-6 run to cut the margin to 50-40 at the break.

The Pride clung to a double figure lead for most of the first ten minutes of the second half, with the largest lead being 16 points. The final eleven minutes of the game saw the Scots slowly chip away at the lead before the game tying shot in the final minute.

Maryville took complete control with 3:07 left in the overtime session, on top 97-96, scoring the final nine points of the game to clinch the win.

T.J. Holman paced the Greensboro attack with 24 points while Damian Dixon added 16. Brian Thomas contributed 14 and Brock Moorman finished with 13. Moorman grabbed a game high eight boards and Chakiris Moss dished out ten assists.

The Scots outrebounded The Pride 40-37 for the game. Greensboro finished the game shooting 48.6% from the field and knocked home eight three-pointers. Maryville, meanwhile, connected on 56.6% of its field goal opportunities and went 10-18 from three.

The Pride are now 8-4 overall on the season after seeing their four game win streak snapped. Greensboro will look to rebound on Wednesday, January 11 at home against North Carolina Wesleyan. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
