I love this site. My kid’s team played New Garden last night.I was very proud that our kids shook off their nervousness and came back to tie the game against a very skilled team. New Garden is the “runningest”: team we have faced in the three years my son has played for Greensboro Home School. Obi Rapu was everything we thought he’d be (good and bad). He is a scoring machine that sometimes turns the ball over. His upside is that he is young and has plenty of time to correct any problems. Our scouting report on Nolan Morganstern was correct as well. We didn’t see any bad attitude but we did see his ability to shoot long and mid-range jumpers. The surprise was Keemon Ingram. His latest stats indicate that he shoots threes. However, no one said anything about him crashing off and def boards, assists, getting to the free throw line, and moving without the ball. We saw him set up and wait for the kick out at Caldwell but this kid was every where last night. Then he played tough defense every single time we brought the ball upcourt! Every time! This is the way I was taught to play: to be responsible for your man and then help – not let your man go and ask for help. It is fun to see two teams with good players going at it and taking each other’s punches. Even though we ran out of gas at the end, I really enjoyed seeing some up and coming players showcasing their talents.
Thanks GHS Dad for you kind comments. Your team is gritty, well disciplined, and doesn’t seem to mind running with uptempo teams. Our younger team members have a great skill set at their age. They also perform very well in the classroom. Keemon’s threes were not falling but he was smiling after the game saying it felt good to get a double double (23 points 10 rebounds) without hitting a three, We are building great student-athletes as well as our athletic program.
