Page Pirate leader(Robert Kent) was the Ledford leader 20 years ago and had the same thing going on then that he does now:Success!

Success breeds success…..Coach Robert Kent took the Ledford Panthers to the 2-A State Championship game…..Kent coached the Southwest Cowboys to the 2-A State Championship and now he has the Page Pirates ranked 4th in the state, in the 4-A polls….But 20 years ago???

from Mike Duprez at the Lexington Times-Dispatch……

It was 20 years ago when Ledford point guard Matt Ridge fired an alley-oop pass to Brian Hege, who leaped high, caught the basketball and threw down a wicked slam dunk against West Davidson.

Hege’s dunk was just one highlight in a storybook season that saw the Panthers go all the way to the 2-A state championship game, where they lost a close one to Ayden-Grifton.

Much has happened since then. Ledford coach Robert Kent went on to win a state championship in 1996 at Southwest Guilford. He is currently the coach at Page. Hege played for Appalachian State and is now the coach at Central Davidson. Ridge turned East Davidson into a winner before taking over at Davidson County Community College five years ago. Matt Jacobs, a junior on that 1991-92 team, took over for Ridge at East.
