College Athletics News – Gabriel Lowder Named Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Gabriel Lowder (Yadkinville, N.C./North Forsyth) collected his first Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award of the year Monday. The prize is presented weekly by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Lowder, a 6-1, 180-pound guard, averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in Guilford’s two league wins last week. He shot better than 54% from the field and 7-of-14 from three-point land in the games. Lowder scored a game-high 20 points and snagged a personal-best nine rebounds in Guilford’s 69-55 home win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Emory & Henry College Jan. 18. He also contributed 13 points and a key steal in the final seconds of the Quakers’ win over second-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College Jan. 21. Lowder has produced double-figures during Guilford’s last four games, the length of the team’s winning streak.

Lowder stands second on the team 12.2 points per game through 18 contests. He has accumulated 38 three-pointers this season and averages 3.1 rebounds per game. Lowder leads the Quakers’ starters with .440 shooting from the field and ranks ninth among ODAC leaders with a .396 three-point field goal percentage.

Guilford (13-5, 7-2 ODAC) plays at home against Randolph College Wednesday.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a cancer awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
