Elon’s Salek Sets Track Record at Liberty Quad

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Elon’s Amy Salek set a new Tolsma Indoor Track in the 400-meter while also helping Elon to two event titles as the Phoenix track and field team competed in the Liberty Quad today, Feb. 10.

Salek took first in the 400-meter dash with a track-record time of 56.12 and anchored the Phoenix 4×400-meter relay team, along with Bria Bell, Veronica Luedke and Abigail Steinsiek, to first place with a time of 3:55.85.

Bell finished second in the 400m with a time of 57.60 in the event, while Steinsiek finished ninth with a time of 1:00.76. Bell (25.81) and Salek (26.12) also finished in the top three of the 200-meter dash, taking second and third place. Kayleigh Birks clocked a time of 26.94 in the 200m to claim ninth.

Dana Cataldo matched her school record of 7.88 in the 60-meter dash by finishing third in the preliminaries. Birks also qualified for the 60m finals with a time of 8.20 in the prelims. The pair finished fourth and seventh in the finals as Cataldo clocked a time of 7.93 and Birks an 8.27.

Louise Prevoteau (9.22) and Luedke (9.33) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Luedke took fourth with a time of 9.30, while Prevoteau earned fifth with a time of 9.35.

Elon placed four runners in the top 10 of the 800-meter run with Julie Hart leading the Phoenix in fifth with a time of 2:20.65. Ellie Taff (2:24.46), Christine Pacewicz (2:26.17) and Jenny Gallagher (2:27.68) finished seventh through ninth in the event.

Pacewicz turned in another top 10 performance in the one-mile run with a time of 5:24.21, which placed her ninth. Brennan McDavid followed in 10th after finishing with a time of 5:24.40.

In the field events, Prevoteau claimed second in the long jump with a leap of 17’8.25, while Luedke took eighth with a distance of 15’10.25”. Janelle McNeil (34’7.5”), Luedke (34’1.5”) and Jordan Lee (32’7.5”) finished second through fourth for the Phoenix in the triple jump.

Other top performances for the maroon and gold came from Haley Laird in the high jump (5’5”/third), Claire Smith in the pole vault (10’2”/fourth), Alyssa Girvin in the weight throw (46’6.25”/fifth) and Charlise Morgan in the shot put (40’4”/fifth).

Several Elon distance runners will compete tomorrow, Feb. 11, in the Fast Track College Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
