Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Downed by CNU

(NEWPORT NEWS, V.A.) — The Pride men’s basketball team was no match for Christopher Newport on Saturday, falling 106-79. The loss drops Greensboro to 14-9 on the season and 5-5 in the USA South, as the Captains swept the regular season series.
The Pride hung tight for the first 11 minutes of the first half, trailing 20-17 with 8:58 remaining. However, back-to-back three’s by Christopher Newport extended the margin to 26-17. The Captains would eventually push the score to 32-22 and take a 45-33 advantage into the break.

Christopher Newport would pad the lead in the early in the second, scoring the first seven points to go up 52-33. The Captains would not look back after that point, en route to becoming the first opponent to surpass the century mark against Greensboro this season.

Devonta Davis scored a team high 22 points, while T.J. Holman contributed 15 and Brian Thomas chipped in with 14.

Greensboro will travel to Averett on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. clash, before wrapping up the regular season on Saturday at home against Shenandoah at 4 p.m.
