Women’s College Basketball Story and Box Score – Guilford , Washington and Lee

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford College overcame a sluggish start to pull away from visiting Washington and Lee University, 62-43, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women’s basketball action Friday night.

Sophomore Gabby Oglesby recorded game-highs of 18 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots led the way for the Quakers.

Guilford (16-5, 13-3 ODAC) was paced in the first half by Jazlyn Gibbs, who scored 7 of her 11 points, and teammate Kayla Adams, who added all six of her points in the period.

Washington and Lee (10-12, 8-9 ODAC) started quickly scoring the first five points of the game, before watching the lead vanish as Guilford scored the next six points. The Quakers took the lead for good at 9:34 as Adams drilled a three-pointer to put the host team up 13-11. Guilford would outscore the Generals 18-7 from that point to take a 31-18 lead into halftime.

The Quakers came out quickly in the second half building their lead to 20 points just four mintues into the period. However Washington and Lee rallied behind eight quick points in 90 seconds to cut Guilford’s lead to just eight points with 8:49 remaining in the game. Guilford regained their composure and extended the lead to as many as 21 with under two minutes left in the game.

Guilford junior Brittany Atwater had 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals to spark the offense. The Quakers finished the game shooting 44 percent from the field.

Meg Ingram finished the game with a team-high 15 points and game-high eight assists for the Generals. Washington and Lee also had strong performances from Katy Wilson, who had 13 points, and Becca Bolton, who grabbed 10 rebounds. The Generals finished the game shooting just 32 percent from the field.

Guilford returns to action Saturday (2/11) at ODAC-rival Lynchburg College for a 4:00 p.m. game. The Quakers defeated the Hornets earlier in the season 64-51.
