GC Baseball Downs Emory & Henry

The Pride won a close game over the Wasps of Emory & Henry, 3-1, to extend their win streak to four games. Despite the scattered rain that fell off and on at Leonard Park, Greensboro kept their poise and came away with an impressive victory over one of the stronger teams in the ODAC.

Greensboro jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Tony Folsum scored from third on an Austin Catherina grounder to second. Emory & Henry would momentarily tie the game in the top of the fourth, but The Pride found the equalizer in the bottom half of the inning as Dan Melton scored while Aaron Navarro was caught in a run down between first and second.

After three more scoreless innings, The Pride tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Matt Parker singled up the middle to get on base and advanced to second on a Raynel Pena ground out. Parker would steal third base before coming home on a wild pitch to solidify the win, 3-1.

Jacob Cadle picked up his second win on the mound, pitching five solid innings and allowing just one run while striking out three. Five other pitchers tossed four inninigs of solid relief, with Grant Kelley picking up the save and Kyle Zembsch striking out three.

The Pride will be back in action Sunday at Leonard Park against the Maryville Scots. Maryville will join the USA South next season and this game will give some insight on what to expect for years to come. Greensboro will play their first game at War Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, February 21st, against Maine-Presque Isle at 6:00 p.m.
