Elon Men’s Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today, Feb. 15, that the Elon men’s cross country team has earned 2011 Division 1 All-Academic Cross Country status.

The men posted a fall 2011 GPA of 3.04 and are one of seven Southern Conference schools to receive the honor. Appalachian State, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Davidson, UNCG and Western Carolina were also named as all-academic teams.

With the Elon women’s team earning all-academic team status on Monday, Feb. 13, this marks the seventh time that both Phoenix squads have received the honor.

A total of 147 men’s Division I programs earned All-Academic Cross Country Team status. To qualify as an USTFCCCA All-Academic team, the team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
