We started the season with 30 teams/15 schools, playing public school high school basketball, back in mid-to-late November and now here we are in late February and we just have four schools that are still in the hunt……

The NCHSAA sectional playoffs will continue on Friday night and from Guilford County we have the Southwest Guilford girls(Defending State 4-A Champs), the High Point Andrews girls, the Page boys and the Northeast Guilford boys all looking to take Sectional Titles tomorrow night…..

The lineup for Friday with everyone on the road, with the exception of the Page boys…..

4-A GIRLS
#3 Southwest Guilford(24-4) at #2 Porter Ridge/Indian Trail(24-3)….SWG has been led down the stretch by Zena Lovette and Jessica Pone….Cowgirls coached by Jessica Bryan with Lawrence, Burgins, Bridges, Rivers and Mott doing a lot for the C’Girls….

2-A GIRLS
#4 High Point Andrews(22-6) at #1 Jordan Matthews(27-0)…..HPA led by some of the best names in the business, in Santia Davis, October Campbell, Imani Watkins, Shamisha Farabee, Cherish MacArthur and just last night Gayla Fairly hit for 10 pts……Just a load of wild/nice first names….

3-A BOYS
#6 Northeast Guilford(21-6) at #6 Erwin Triton(25-3)…..NEG goes with Benjamin, Tijani, Simpson, Hairston, Williamson and a taller man in Cam Smith and the Rams really roll with the speed and quickness of their guards and wing players……Usually when our guys(Guilford County) head East we have success, [see Dudley, NEG and Northern over the years,] and when there are problems down East, they will often times come from schools like Rocky Mount and Kinston(now 2-A)……

4-A BOYS
#3 Mount Tabor(20-7) at #2 Page(22-5)….Same two teams met in the Sectional Finals back about 3 years ago at MT and the Spartans won that one and went on to win the State 4-A Title and they were led then by C.J. Harris(Wake Forest), Mike Grace(Yale) and Will Carpenter(Lenior-Rhyne)…Page was paced by Julius Brooks(Loyola Marymount Maryland) and Jordan Weethe(VMI)….Page now very much guard-oriented with Eaves, Brown, Fonville, Spain, Gavin, Stanley and wing/forwards in James Summers…Page extremely quick and they will have to keep up the ‘Pirate Pace’ when they face Mt. Tabor, on Friday night…When Mount Tabor won their State Title three years back, they only lost one game the entire season and that loss came at the hands of the PAGE Pirates in the regular season, at Tabor….Time to return the favor and take the Title from Tabor, with the Sectionals on the line tomorrow night, at PAGE.

  • Keith said,

Someone had mentioned some good things about Andrew girls back in December and whoever they were was right on the money. Go Andrews!
