The Cowboys of Southwest hit the road to Winston Salem to take on the Spartans of Mount Tabor in the 2nd round of the State 4A playoffs on Wednesday night. The Spartans came out strong forcing turnovers and bad possessions by the visitors and got up 11-2. Southwest started to chip away and managed to get the first quarter tally to 15-10. The second quarter opened with another strong start by the Spartans getting the lead up to 21-12, but the Cowboys wouldn’t go away. The second half had the Southwest not find a rhythm on either side of the floor. They couldn’t get a defensive stop, nor put the ball in the basket. The Spartans used their length well and outscored the Cowboys 18-10 in the frame to make it 52-43. The fourth quarter was the same story as the Spartans kept pushing the lead out while the Cowboys couldn’t get anything done as the hosts pulled away for a 81-60 win.
