Much like Jeremy Lin and Tim Tebow, the West Charlotte Lions have been calling on a ‘Higher Power’ this basketball season and so far (25-5) says ‘no busy signals’, help has been on the way!

from Langston Wertz Jr. at The Charlotte Observer and www.charlotteobserver.com:

Ten minutes after Friday’s 59-55 overtime win at South Mecklenburg, the best high school game Langston Wertz Jr. says that he has seen in five years, the West Charlotte Lions glided into the Sabres’ visitors’ locker room, got dressed and then they gathered in a circle.

All the players and coaches locked arms and everybody bowed their heads.
Next, coach Baronton Terry led a 2-minute, 23-second prayer, where he sounded every bit the part of an old Baptist preacher, asking God to watch over his team, to bring it closer, to not let any outside influences harm what is the team’s ultimate goal: a repeat 4A state title.

  1. You mean the same West Charlotte program that walked off the court before the award ceremonies 2 yrs ago in Greensboro when Lake Norman beat them to go to the state title game?? I believe JT Terrell was on that team as well…………..nuff said………

  2. Maybe they’ve changed….They won it all last year and the ‘Higher Power’ seems to be taking them to a ‘higer level’…..

J.T. now at Southern Cal, right?

  3. Why people always bring up other people past, but never looks in the mirror at the stuff they might have done that wasn’t mature. That was 2 yrs ago, most of that team ( W. Charlotte) was even playing that night of 2 yrs ago. They showed CLASS tonight to me and even last yr, when they won the whole thing. I’m glad GOD, don’t JUDGE FOLKS like WE DO AT TIMES. SMH
