Phoenix Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Coastal Carolina Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Elon track and field team opened its 2012 outdoor season today, March 9, in day one of the Coastal Carolina Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium.

Suzanne Martin set a new school record in the javelin with a toss of 135’ that placed her fourth out of the 46 competitors in the event. Jordan Lee took 27th with a throw of 96’1”, while Louise Prevoteau finished 37th after throwing for a distance of 82’1”.

Prevoteau finished second in the long jump invitational division with a leap of 17’9.75”. Janelle McNeil, who competed in the open division, jumped a distance of 15’7.75” for eighth.

In the hammer throw, Alyssa Girvin and Charlise Morgan finished 12th and 16th in the field of 44 with marks of 141’3” and 133’11”, respectively.

Claire Smith finished fifth in flight A of the pole vault after hitting a mark of 10’6”. In flight B, Melinda Hersey claimed sixth with a height of 9’6.25”.

The Phoenix will be back in action tomorrow, March 10, in the final day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
