Elon Track and Field Closes Out Coastal Carolina Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Elon track and field team completed action in its first outdoor meet of the year with several top performances in the Coastal Carolina Invitational today, March 10, at Doug Shaw Stadium.

The 4×400-meter relay team, comprised of Bria Bell, Veronica Luedke, Louise Prevoteau and Amy Salek, claimed first in the event of 12 teams with a time of 3:50.49. Elon’s 4×100-meter relay team, which consisted of Dana Cataldo, Kayleigh Birks, Bell and Luedke, finished second only behind Appalachian State with a time of 47.67.

Salek earned another title for Elon in the 400-meter dash after clocking a time of 55.71. Bell finished fourth in the event, finishing in 57.38. In the 84-athlete field of the 200-meter dash, Salek (24.77) took third and Bell (25.05) seventh, while Cataldo (25.61) earned 13th. Cataldo also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.34.

Luedke took first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.06, while also finishing the 100-meter hurdles in 15.06 for fifth. Prevoteau took sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.14.

Allyson Oram claimed fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:47.25, followed by Emily Tryon who ran the event in 4:47.70 for fifth. Christine Pacewicz (4:58.09) took 14th, Brennan McDavid (4:59.10) finished 17th and Jenny Gallagher (5:02.14) took 20th to round out the top 20 in the event.

The Phoenix placed four in the top 20 of the 800-meter run with Ellie Taff earning 12th with a time of 2:23.72. Tryon (2:24.44), McDavid (2:24.98) and Jackie Madden (2:25.15) placed 15th – 17th, respectively. Kaitlin Stober was Elon’s top finisher in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:58.03.

In the field events, Alyssa Girvin claimed fifth in the discus with a toss of 129’4”, while Charlise Morgan took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 40’6”. Janelle McNeil finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 36’5”. Jordan Lee and Haley Laird earned eighth and 12th, respectively, in the high jump after both hitting marks of 5’1”.

The Elon track and field team will return to action on Friday, March 30, for the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
