College Track & Field Results – Guilford’s Smith Wins 200 at Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Guilford College’s Johnathan Smith (Conyers, Ga./Salem) won the 200-meter dash and placed sixth in the 100 at the Wake Forest Open Saturday.

The sophomore, who finished second in the 60 at last week’s NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, lowered his own school record in both disciplines. He had the best time (21.26) among 113 mostly Division I contestants in the 200 and topped Radford University freshman Joseph Betts by two-tenths of a second. Smith took sixth among 63 sprinters in the 100 with a time of 10.68 seconds, tops among Division III contestants. He qualified for Saturday’s finals with a school-record 10.53 in Friday’s preliminaries.

Guilford’s Chad Norton ran the second-fastest 10,000 time (32:34.88) in Guilford history to place third in the 22-man field. His personal-best time was tops among Division III runners. Teammate Dylan Skinner (Hillsborough, N.C./Orange) took fifth in the 800 with a time of 1:54.43, which stands second all-time at Guilford. His mark was the fastest Division III time in the 97-man field.

Jasmine O’Neil (Winston-Salem, N.C./Parkland) highlighted the Quakers’ women’s results with a school-record in the 200 (30.43 seconds) and the second-fastest time in the 800 (2:39.12). The freshman placed 125th in the 200 and 103rd in the 800.

Guilford competes in High Point University’s VertKlasse Meeting March 24.

    I have and 8th grade girl and a 7th grade boy that I am training out here in Texas right now that may turn out to be out standing someday!!
    200m 8 Tyniece Mcfarland 26.97, 8-13.14a 1OO M!! She has ran faster because we practice at 27sec for the 200m. She told me that she was mad at me because I didn’t show up on time for the meet…lol That’s why she didn’t run hard…lol I had to tell her (I’m not running you are)…lol OTHER PEOPLES KIDS……LOL got to love them…lol

    7-Willie Cherry 26.02a: Willie has a good up side and nice turn over for a kid 6′ tall at his age. Just have to keep that Basketball out of his hands for the season…lol I’m hoping to bring them to Greensboro this summer to run> with Gods Blessing We will be there.
