The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 4-0 lead but fell to Shenandoah on Saturday, 16-9. The game went into the break tied at 5-5 before the Hornets took control in the second half.

Michaela Sandoval, Brittany Ziobro, Melissa Gallaher and Jackie Farrell all found the net in the first 7:30 of the game as The Pride stormed out to a 4-0 lead. After Shenandoah responded with five unanswered goals to grab a 5-4 advantage, Sandoval beat the keeper for her second goal of the half with 2:04 to play.

The two teams traded goals to open the second half. Ziobro tallied her second goal of the afternoon at the 9:17 mark to pull The Pride to within 12-8.

That was as close as Greensboro would get, as Shendoah added another four goals to extend the lead to 16-8. Sandoval finished out the scoring with a hat trick goal for the final margin of 16-9.

The Hornets held advantages in shots (29-16), ground balls (17-9) and draw controls (15-12). The Pride made good on 8-14 clear attempts and capitalized on 2-3 free position opportunities.

Greensboro falls to 3-7 overall and 3-2 in the USA South with the loss. The Pride’s next regular season game will be on March 29 against North Carolina Wesleyan at 4:30 p.m. Greensboro will also travel to Wake Forest on March 28 for a 7:30 p.m. exhibition.
