The Greensboro College baseball team took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh but gave up four runs in a 5-2 loss to Lynchburg on Wednesday. The Pride were looking to sweep the season series after beating the Hornets, 7-3, in their home opener on February 12.
Steven Pfeiffer doubled home James Feldmann in the first inning, to get the day started right for Greensboro. After Lynchburg knotted the score at 1-1, Jon Krecicki advanced home in the seventh on a throwing error, to put The Pride back on top 2-1.
The Hornets exploded in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs on two hits to take their first lead of the game at 5-2. Greensboro was unable to threaten in the final two innings as Lynchburg held on for the win.
Both teams finished the game with seven hits, as Powell led The Pride with a game high three. Greensboro used five different pitchers, with Brian Robbett suffering the loss in 1.0 inning of work.
The Pride are now 17-11 on the season. Greensboro will be back at home this weekend for a two game series with North Carolina Wesleyan, on Saturday and Sunday. Both games will be played at 1 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.
