Faure, Scally compete for HPU men’s track at Winston-Salem State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Sophomores Tristan Faure and Steven Scally both competed in the throwing events at the Winston-Salem State Collegiate Invitational on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Faure’s fifth-place finish in the javelin was HPU’s top mark.

“Tristan got a PR in the shot put and was just off his PR in the javelin, that’s a solid day for a multi-event athlete,” said HPU head coach Mike Esposito. “Steven had an OK day in the discus, he’s showing some consistency.”

Faure threw the javelin 42.78 meters (140-4), just off his career best of 42.87 meters (140-7) to place fifth in the javelin. His throw of 11.06 meters (36-3.25) in the shot put was good for 13th place and beat his previous best of 10.92 meters (35-9.75). Faure placed 17th in the discus with a throw of 27.90 meters (91-6).

Faure will compete in the decathlon at the Big South Championship.

Scally threw the discus 38.77 meters (127-2), good for ninth place. It was just off his season best of 40.54 meters (133-0) from last week’s VertKlasse Meeting.

Most of HPU’s runners competed in the Raleigh Relays at NC State on Friday and Saturday. Next weekend, junior Jacob Smith will be competing in an elite 5,000-meter at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary and sophomore Evan Emery will compete in loaded 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Florida Relays. Most of HPU’s other competitors will be at the Duke Invitational.
