College Basketball News – Guilford’s Oglesby Named to All-State Team

GREENSBORO, N.C.– Guilford College sophomore Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Parkland) was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Team Tuesday.

The all-star unit is comprised of women’s basketball student-athletes from North Carolina’s NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA institutions. Sports information professionals nominated student-athletes for the team, which was selected by NCCSIA members.

Gabby Oglesby Class of 2014

Oglesby, a 5-11 forward, recently concluded one of the most decorated women’s basketball seasons in school history. For her accomplishments, she earned a spot on the D3hoops.com First Team All-South Region squad, the first Quaker so honored. She collected the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Player of the Year Award and was named Most Outstanding Player of the league tournament after leading Guilford to its first title since 2002. Oglesby led the Quakers in scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage and blocked shots (66). She paced the ODAC in blocks per game (2.3 bpg.) and ranked 43rd among NCAA Division III leaders. Her .514 field-goal percentage stood third in the league and 44th nationally. Oglesby’s 14.7 points per game average was fourth in the conference and her 7.9 boards per outing figure placed sixth. The ODAC’s Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8, she had a team-high six double-doubles this year.

Oglesby broke Guilford’s all-time blocks record Feb. 17 in her 51st career game. She enters her junior year with 127 rejections in 56 games, 13 better than the former standard, which was set in 110 contests. Oglesby set another school record with seven blocks in a Jan. 6 win over Randolph-Macon College and broke her own Guilford mark for blocks in a season at the 2012 ODAC Tournament.

Coach Stephanie Flamini’s Quakers finished with a 22-7 overall record, Guilford’s best since 2002, and went 16-4 in the ODAC. Guilford knocked off the top two seeds in the ODAC Tournament to win its third league title. The Quakers made their third NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and first since 2002. Host Centre College ended Guilford’s season with a 59-47 victory in the tourney’s opening round. Flamini expects four starters and 15 letter winners back for the 2012-13 season, including Oglesby.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina’s NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting collegCate athletics and student-athletes.
