College Football News – Five More Students Headed Guilford College

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the intention of five more incoming students to play football for the Quakers. The students have made their deposits to the college and will enroll for classes beginning in August. They raised Rusiewicz’s second recruiting class at Guilford to 23.

Reggie Bullard (Roseboro, N.C.) lettered at Cape Fear High School under coach Bryan Till. The 6-2, 215-pound linebacker earned second team all-region recognition and was an honorable mention All-Mid South Conference selection. Bullard served as a team captain, was named the Colts’ top linebacker, and Defensive MVP. He also lettered in baseball, track and field and wrestling. He is active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Farmers of America, and the Fear Factor Spirit Club.

Carl Reid (Fayetteville, N.C.) earned two varsity letters at E.E. Smith High School under coach Duran Mclaurin. The 5-10, 160-pound defensive back also earned two letters and captained the track and field team. He was a member of the school’s A-B Honor Roll.

Shaquan Reid (Hickory, N.C.) earned three varsity letters with the Hickory High School football team under coach John Worley. The 5-6, 165-pound running back twice received All- 4A/3A Northwestern Conference honors and led the 2011 team to the league title. He ran for 1,100 yards as a senior and graduated with 2,500 rushing yards and over 30 rushing touchdowns. He was also a four year-varsity track and field letter winner who earned all-conference three times, the team’s High Point Award three times, and Best Relay Runner three times. Reid also participated with the Heroes of Hickory community service group.

Adam Smith (Mocksville, N.C.) lettered three years under coach Doug Illing at Davie County High School. The 5-11, 165-pound quarterback earned the Central Piedmont Conference’s Co-offensive Player of the Year Award last fall and will play in the 2012 N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game in July. He was the first quarterback in Davie County High history to throw for 1,500 yards and run for 500 yards in the same season. In 2010, Smith helped the War Eagles to second-place in the state 4A playoffs as a defensive back. He also lettered four years in track, where he earned all-conference recognition as a hurdler. Smith also lettered in basketball and helped the War Eagles place second in the 2012 state 4A West Region. He has been a scholar-athlete throughout his four years at Davie County.

Jeremy Taylor (Randleman, N.C.) lettered three times under coach Shane Handy ’92 at Randleman High School. The 6-1, 195-pound running back twice received All-Randolph County and All-Piedmont Athletic Conference 6 recognition and was a three-time player of the week. He rushed for over a 1,000 yards in nine games last fall, a team high. Taylor also led the team in receiving yards and in interceptions during his career. He played baseball and basketball for the Tigers and academically ranks near the top of his class.

Guilford opens the 2012 season Sept. 1 against Greensboro College in the Gate City Soup Bowl at 7:00 p.m.
