College Women’s Lacrosse News – Guilford’s Mettler Lands National Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College junior Liza Mettler (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Beaumont School) was named NCAA Division III Defensive Player of the Week by Synapse Sports Tuesday. Staff members of the Maryland-based company made the weekly selections.

Mettler recorded a 5.00 goals against average and .565 saves percentage in Guilford’s 2-0 week. She recorded the sixth shutout in school history with three saves in Guilford’s 12-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Hollins University Apr. 4. Metter made 10 stops in the Quakers’ 15-10 road win over league-rival Lynchburg College Apr. 7. She stopped four free-position shots and picked up five ground balls in Guilford’s first win over the Hornets since 2008.

Mettler ranks second in the ODAC with a .476 saves percentage and third with 9.92 saves per game. She has seven games with 10 or more stops, including two contests with 14 stops. Metter stands third on the team with 27 ground balls.

Coach Matthew Grosso’s Quakers (8-4, 5-1 ODAC) have won five of their last seven games and are enjoying their best season since 2008. Guilford visits league-rival Randolph-Macon College Saturday (4/14) at 4:00 p.m.
