GC Women’s Lacrosse Places Seven on USA South All-Conference Team

The Pride women’s lacrosse team had seven players recognized Wednesday on the USA South All-Conference Team. Earning First Team honors were attacker Brittany Ziobro, midfielder Melissa Gallaher and defenseman Jackie Farrell; Second Team recognition went to midfielder Nadya Fedun; and picking up Third Team awards were midfielder Kayla Gonzalez and defenseman Melissa Townsend. In addition, goalie Tierra Lyles was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Ziobro finished in the top three in the conference in goals, assists and points. In a victory over North Carolina Wesleyan, Ziobro set a USA South mark with points in a match with 13. For the season, she scored 55 goals and dished out 21 assists for 76 total points.

Gallaher appeared in all 13 games as a senior, placing first on the team in caused turnovers with 34, ground balls with 44, and draw controls with 54. She ranked second on the team in goals, assists and points. Overall, Gallaher notched 36 goals and ten assists for 46 points from her midfield position.

Farrell, a fellow senior, also wrapped up her campaign with First Team honors. While anchoring a steady Greensboro defense, Farrell recorded six goals and an assist to go along with 47 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers.

Fedun had a standout campaign in her first year with The Pride. She scored 20 goals, had five assists, and picked up 26 draw controls.

Gonzalez was named to the Third Team after scoring 11 goals with one assist. From her midefield position, she also contributed 22 ground balls and ten caused turnovers.

Townsend, meanwhile, joined Farrell as defensive honorees for Greensboro. She helped limit opponent opportunities while picking up 14 ground balls.

Lyles was the final member of the All-Conference Team, garnering All-Sportsmanship recognition. In her first season in goal, she played nearly every minute of every game while leading The Pride to five conference wins.
