College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Greensboro 8, Guilford 7 (ot)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jaeger Carlyle’s unassisted goal 65 seconds into overtime gave Greensboro College an 8-7 men’s lacrosse win at Guilford College Wednesday night.

Neither team led by more than one goal throughout the thrilling contest between cross-town rivals, which featured six ties. Guilford’s Chris Ashcraft’s third goal of the game forced the extra period with 4:05 left in regulation.

Greensboro’s Skip Jakupi (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) won his 12th face-off to start the overtime, after which the Pride called timeout. The Pride (7-6) worked the ball to Carlyle, who snapped a low shot while closely guarded for the game winner.

Bill Blakely scored a game-high five points on four goals and an assist for Greensboro. Thomas Brooks added two scores and Mitchell Kanowicz made 11 saves in goal.

Ashcraft’s three goals and one assist paced the Quakers (6-7). Fellow senior Greg Nash also scored three goals and junior Nick Mann had a game-high three assists. Freshman Nick Huckins paced Guilford’s defense with three caused turnovers and seven ground balls, both game highs. Classmate Thomas Deane registered 10 saves in goal, his seventh contest with 10 or more stops.

The Quakers head to Lynchburg College Saturday (4/14) for a 7:00 p.m. Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest.
