Brittany Clency(Western Guilford) signs today with USC-Upstate with Photo Gallery from signing with many loyal WG Hornets and Q and A with Clency as she moves on to DI

Brittany Clency was the on the center stage, or just down below the stage, in the Western Guilford auditorium today and she signed her letter-of-intent to attend the University of South Carolina Upstate and last year we were at WG at this time and the Stadnik Brothers were signing with South Carolina for football….

Today was Brittany’s day and she handled it all in stride, with her dad and younger brother by her side and her coach Shonna Polk, from WG, right there with her too…..Brittany is a very smart young lady and a very good basketball player and she will try and get faster and stronger as she heads on to USC-Upstate…..

Check out the photos below and they will tell most of the story of what was going on with the signing today at Western and be sure to read our Question and Answer session with Brittany following the photos…Click on one and they will take you all thw way through the file/gallery…..

Five Questions with Western Guilford’s Brittany Clency….
1)What got you interested in South Carolina Upstate? And what swayed them in your favor, over some of the other schools you were looking at??
Brittany Clency:I found out about USC-Upstate through their coaches and I liked it since it is far enough away to give me some space and still close enough to be near my family….The competition sealed it….The fact that they are a Division I school and that is the highest level of competition….

2)What part of your game suits their system?
Brittany Clency:My speed and my shot suits their system….They are a good fit.

3)Describe their system a little bit, what type of offense do they run?
Brittany Clency:They run a four-guard/one-post offense…..They like to break it open and run and I see myself in the #2 or #3 spot with them…..Sort of like a wing that can go or spread wide and run the floor from the 2 or 3 position…..

4)What part of your game do see yourself needing to work on before you arrive at USC-Upstate?
Brittany Clency:Work on all phases of my game…I’ll be doing running and strength work at Western before I go down to S.C. Upstate and I will also be working out at the Sportsplex….I have worked and played in the past for Delaney Rudd and the Phoenix program and have at least a two-year background with them…..A lot to be learned from Delaney and Reggie….

5)What have you learned the most, from your time here at Western Guilford, under Coach Polk and her staff?
Brittany Clency:They have challenged me to work hard and to get better….Just because you are the leading scorer or rebounder that doesn’t make you the best….The best players are the ones that continue to improve each day and I feel my best game this past season was our first game against Page……You have to keep working hard, and if you don’t, don’t expect to see any results……My freshman year, I want to find the role that works for me and get into that starting lineup at USC-Upstate and if I don’t work hard, I will not make that goal….

  1. Congratulations to Brittany and the Clency family! I only got to see you play one season and it was an impressive one….Good luck to you on the next level, I know you will do well. God bless you and yours!

  2. Fine group gathered at Western Guilford on Wednesday….

There is supposed to be a charity basketball game at Western tonight and they said Tyler Zeller might show….I think it is 107.5 All-Stars vs. Faculty and staff of WG……
