JAMESTOWN — When the opportunity arose for him to play NCAA Division I baseball, Mitch Carstens hit it out of the park.

After impressing UNC Asheville coaches during a game in early March, Carstens, a senior at Ragsdale, decided to join the Bulldogs in the fall, signing his National Letter of Intent during Wednesday’s signing ceremony at Ragsdale.

“Division I, that’s all that matters, “ he said with a laugh.

Carstens has been an invaluable player for the Tigers during his three years on varsity. While he has become a standout catcher (the position Asheville has recruited him to play), he has played everywhere from pitcher to infield to outfield at Ragsdale.

  1. Congratulations to both Karson and Mitch. Two athletic kids that knock it out in the classroom as well.
