College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Leads After First Round of ODAC Championships

CAPE CHARLES, Va. – Second-ranked Guilford College placed all five golfers among the top-13 individuals and leads after Monday’s first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships at the Bay Creek Resort. The Quakers shot 296 and hold a 14-shot edge over second-place Roanoke College in the eight-team field. Bridgewater College (313) and Washington and Lee University (315) are third and fourth, respectively.

Guilford freshman Nick Shedd (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette), playing in his second varsity tournament, shot an even-par 72 and holds first place in the 40-man field, one stroke ahead of teammate Andrew Thompson and Bridgewater’s John Phillips. The Quakers’ Noah Ratner shares fourth with Roanoke’s Brandon Ketron after Monday’s two-over 74. Teammate Mitch Robinette (Charlotte, N.C./Grace Academy) shot 36 on the front nine and finished with a 77, good for a share of 10th place. Guilford’s Dusty Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) carded a 78 and shares 13th place.

The rain-shortened tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday at Bay Creek. Sunday’s scheduled opening round was washed out by heavy rain and winds at the coastal Virginia course.

The Quakers are the defending tournament champions and bidding for their 12th ODAC title. Guilford is ranked second in the latest Nike Golf/Golf World Division III Coaches’ Poll and fifth in the April 18 Golfstat.com Division III Relative Rankings.
