CAPE CHARLES, Va. – Guilford College won it’s league record-tying 12th Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s golf championship Tuesday at the Bay Creek Resort. The second-ranked Quakers shot 296-300-596 and won their second straight title by 19 strokes over second-place Roanoke College (310-305-615). With their fifth tournament victory of the season, Guilford earned the ODAC’s berth in the NCAA Division III Championships May 15-18 at the Mission Inn and Resort Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Quakers will be making their league-record 17th NCAA appearance.

Guilford posted the low round both days and placed all five contestants among the top-14 finishers. Rookies Nick Shedd (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) and Drew Thompson (Pickerington, Ohio/ Pickerington North) shared second place at 147. Roanoke College’s Brandon Ketron won medalist honors at the 40-man tournament with a 74-71-145. The top-six finishers earned all-tournament recognition.

Shedd, the first-round leader playing his second varsity tournament, carded a three-over 75 Tuesday on the 6,966-yard layout on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. He shot 72-75-147 and shared second with Thompson, who finished at 73-74-147. Fellow freshman Mitch Robinette (Charlotte, N.C./Grace Academy) also carded a 75 Tuesday and finished in a tie for ninth at 75-77-152.

Coach Corey Maggard’s upperclassmen, junior Noah Ratner and senior Dusty Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County), finished 11th and 14th, respectively. Ratner shot 74-79-153 to take 11th, one shot and three places ahead of Roberts (78-76-154).

The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after Sunday’s opening round was washed out by heavy rain and high winds.
