The Bulldogs drub Hitting Zone, 8-2

The Bulldogs pounded Hitting Zone on Wednesday 8-2 at Glenn High School in seven innings.The Bulldogs scored three runs in the fifth on a groundout by Robbie Swab (Presbyterian/East Forsyth) and a two-run home run by Eric Kalbfleisch (UNCG).The Bulldogs hit three home runs in the win. Additional home runs for the Bulldogs came when Ray Crawford (UNCG/Dudley) homered in the first inning and Cal Sutphin (Pfeiffer/SWG) homered in the third inning. Crawford put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Bulldogs. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the sixth inning.Austin Hardin (Northern/Brevard) got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over six innings. He struck out seven, walked three and surrendered five hits.Sutphin, Kalbfleisch and Crawford helped lead the Bulldogs. They combined for five hits and five RBIs.The Bulldogs didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring one run in the first inning when they scored on a solo home run by Crawford. After posting one run in the second, the Bulldogs again scored one in the third. In the second, the Bulldogs scored on a fielder’s choice, scoring Swab.After pushing across one run in the top of the sixth, Hitting Zone faced just a 6-2 deficit. An RBI double by Trip Dunn set off a Hitting Zone rally. The Hitting Zone threat came to an end when Hardin finally got Brant Williams to strike out.
