This year’s draft has kind of snuck up on us and here it is, set to beging today and then run on through Wednesday…

Round One and the complimentary picks going down today and then things really pick up on Tuesday and Wednesday….There is talk that Duke pitcher Marcus Stroman may go in the Top Ten and he is only 5’9, but word has it a move to the bullpen might be in store for him, ’cause he throws hard and he is strong..

Last year we were watching and waiting to see where Josh Tobias(Southeast Guilford) and Clint Moore(Army) would end up and this year maybe we will see some of our high school kids selected in the late rounds….

By the way, in Tobias’ most recent game for the Florida Gators, on Sunday he went:
Josh Tobias 3b 3 1 1 2….That’s 1-3, with 1 run scored and 2 RBI’s in the Gators big win over Georgia Tech…..That Tobias kid is doing OK for himself down in Florida, with the Gators….

Watching out for Marcus Stroman(Duke) and there is talk that a number of the North Carolina and N.C. State players will be selected at some point……Matthews, Stallings, Morin, Blair(Wake Forest) among others and some say look out for Alex Swim(C) of Elon in this year’s draft….

High School-wise from the local scene we should probably rest our hopes in those late rounds on Corey Kimber(Dudley), Keaton Haack(NWG), Dallas Newton(SEG) and Nick Monroe(Eastern Alamance)….All of those guys can pitch and the scouts say you can never get enough pitching and just look at the Miami Marlins’ top pick from last year in Jose Fernandez…..He is (6-0) and having a great start to his career with the Greensboro Grasshoppers this season….

I’m sure we will all keep a close watch/eye on these proceedings and it all gets under way tonight on the MLB NetworK(7pm)….

Might see Eddie Sappelt (Southern Alamance) go late…Hunter Ridge (UNC-W, Southwestern Randolph) was at #478 in the 15th round in a mock draft 2 days ago.

Has anyone seen Corey Kimber’s name in a mock draft, will he get drafted?
