Greensboro College Promotes Dirk Fennie to Assistant Athletics Director

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — Greensboro College Athletics Director Dan Cetrone announced the hiring of Dirk Fennie as Assistant Athletics Director on Thursday. Fennie, who also coaches The Pride men’s and women’s golf team’s, is entering his fourth year at Greensboro College in 2012-13.

“I am very excited to appoint Dirk Fennie to this new role in our department,” said Cetrone. “Dirk has been a loyal, hard worker in every job the school has asked him to do. He has done a fantastic job leading our golf program and I cannot wait to see what he brings to the table in a more administrative role in athletics.”

Since coming to Greensboro College in 2010, Fennie has led The Pride men’s golf team to a National Championship, established the women’s golf program, assisted in Sports Information, and has been instrumental in the department’s strategic efforts.

After taking over the storied men’s golf program, Fennie led the team to its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2005 – where it placed 11th overall.

The following year saw The Pride capture their second National Championship in school history with an impressive showing at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC. In recognition of the accomplishment, Fennie won the Dave Williams Award honoring the National Coach of the Year.

This past season, Fennie and the men’s golf team added a USA South Championship while turning in a 12th place finish at the NCAA Championship. In addition, Fennie oversaw the creation and development of The Pride women’s golf program in its inaugural season.

“I am looking forward to working with Dan Cetrone and the coaching staff to enhance the experience of all the student-athletes here at Greensboro College,” said Fennie. “I want to help maintain and expand on the vision set forth by Dan and President Czarda. I am excited to have this opportunity to support the growth and future of the Greensboro College community.”

Fennie’s responsibilities will include overseeing the marketing and promotions of the athletic department; planning and implementing fundraising operations; seeking, negotiating and securing athletic department sponsorships; and assisting with the coordination of the Jim Locke Golf Tournament and Pridefest fundraiser.
