No time for the ‘Paint’ to dry:Smith boys basketball coach Brian Jones resigns completing ‘Clean Sweep’ of the city schools’ coaches

The ‘Sweep’ is complete….There has now been a total turnaround and upheaval of the boys basketball coaches in the Greensboro City Schools….We hit it for you back in March, then we got it for you back in April, it happened again yesterday and now today we have the ‘Sweep’ for you….

Brian Jones has stepped down as the boy’s basketball coach at Ben L. Smith High School…Two years ago he took his team to the Metro Tournament Title at Dudley HS, when his Eagle club topped the #1 Page Pirates….Now coach Jones, who took over at Smith when Gene Banks stepped aside, he is gone and will spend more time taking care of his son, as a single parent and will also pursue his masters degree and you can’t fault him for that….I will commend a man that will be there for his son or daughter and one that is seeking to further and master his education…..The only thing is we will miss Coach Jones…Very unassuming and just got the job done and it is not always easy at Smith with their very diverse and outgoing and incoming student population….I appreciate the job Coach Jones did and he always was there with a very clean pressed white shirt and tie on Tuesday and Friday nights and he seemed to really appriciate the coverage we gave his team with Tracy Gathings, Drew Williams, Adrian Wimbush and all the kids over the past few years….Coach Jones gone, but we will see him again down the road when his son hits the fast lane on the basketball courts…..
