HPU Women’s Lacrosse Adds Transfer Hammond for 2012-13

The High Point University women’s lacrosse team has added Jordan Hammond, a transfer from the University of Maryland, for the 2012-13 season, head coach Lyndsey Boswell announced on Monday. A midfielder, Hammond will be a redshirt-freshman this fall.

“Jordan sees the game at a high level and has a presence on the field that makes her teammates better,” said HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell. “She will hopefully help us on the draw and she’s a natural leader, which will help us in the midfield since Heather Ziccarelli graduated.”

Hammond is from Bel Air, Md., and attended John Carroll and Bel Air High School. She was a member of the state championship team in 2008, which was tabbed the top team in the nation by LaxPower. Hammond was named Under Armour All-American and was an All-Conference selection in 2009, 2010 and 2011. She was also a three-time All-County selection and was an All-County and All-Metro selection in soccer.

She didn’t play in any games for Maryland and has four years of eligibility remaining for High Point.

Hammond was high school and club teammates with current HPU standout Grace Gaeng, who will be a redshirt-senior next season. Gaeng also transferred to High Point from the University of Maryland and was National Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year in 2011.

The 2012-13 season will be the third for High Point University women’s lacrosse, which went 15-4 in each of its two varsity seasons. The Panthers won the National Lacrosse Conference Tournament in 2011 and won the regular season in 2012. HPU will enter the Big South Conference for women’s lacrosse next year along with former NLC members Liberty, Longwood, Presbyterian and Davidson as well as new programs Campbell, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop.
