Powerade State Games Wraps Up Huge Weekend In Winston-Salem

Fourteen Different Sports Competitions Took Place Over Last Weekend

The Powerade State Games of North Carolina completed its largest weekend of events on June 16th and 17th. Fourteen different competitions were offered over the weekend in addition to the
Opening Ceremonies.

In the High School Baseball Showcase, the western half of the
state dominated the tournament with all four western regions represented in
the medal games. Region 6 (Charlotte area) took the Gold Medal with a 3-0
win over Region 5 (Winston-Salem/Greensboro area). Region 8 (Asheville
area) won the Bronze Medal Game with a 7-5 victory over Region 7 (Wilkes
County area).

The High School Soccer Showcase saw the West Boys and East Girls
teams both take home gold medals. The West Boys narrowly edged the East
team 1-0 in the Gold Medal Game, while the East Girls won 4-2 over the West
Girls to claim the Powerade State Games top prize. The South teams took
bronze in both divisions.

Forsyth Country Day School hosted both the High School Lacrosse
Showcase and the Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. The East Boys lacrosse
team won the gold medal by beating the West Boys in the first two of a
best-of-three series. The East Girls team took the gold after falling to
the West Girls in the first game (12-10), but rallying to win the final two
games of the series. The Wrestling Tournament featured 136 competitors from
across the state competing in both folkstyle and freestyle divisions.

This week, the High School Softball Underclassman Showcase is
entering the third day of competition today. Today the event will
conclude with the East vs West Senior Showcase.

This weekend, High School Basketball, Swimming, Gymnastics, and
Adult Lacrosse will be held throughout Winston-Salem. Elsewhere, Greensboro
and Charlotte host the Adult Ice Hockey Tournament, while Caswell Ranch
