“I felt good out there,” said Alan Sharpe, who threw 118 pitches. “It took me a little while in the first couple of innings to get in the zone, but I finally got my slider and fast ball going. I was able to locate my pitches and work the outside.”

Sharpe held a 1-0 lead in the second inning when his former high school teammate Logan Thornton drove in Scott Ellington on an RBI double off the wall in center field for Post 63’s first hit.

Post 63 added a run two innings later when Daniel Kennedy took a Craig Jacobelli offering for a solo home run. Kennedy scored two runs.

Jacobelli kept Post 81 (6-8, 5-7) close. The Southeast Guilford pitcher threw seven innings and allowed only three hits, keeping the Post 63 hitters at bay. Jacobelli struck out nine batters, walked two, and plunked a batter on 102 pitches.

“(Craig) gave us seven terrific innings, and we had a good defense behind him,” said Post 81 manager Jerry Kidd. “We just couldn’t get that big hit when we needed it.”

Eastern Randolph scored a run in the top of the fifth inning. Tim Amick(SEG) scored on a Knox Gunter two-out single up the middle to get on the scoreboard, but the small rally was cut short when Sharpe stuck out the next batter.

The pitcher’s duel was forgotten in the crucial eighth inning. Austin Bain(SEG) relieved Jacobelli to start the inning, and Post 63 took advantage quickly.

Adam Smith led off the inning with a single for his second hit of the game. His double in the fifth inning allowed him to be the only Post 63 player to record more than one hit.

After Morgan Keene’s sacrifice bunt moved Smith into scoring position, Sappelt took a Bain changeup over the right-field fence for a two-run blast after forcing a 3-2 count.
