HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s lacrosse team and head coach Jon Torpey announced the addition of Joe Cinosky as a volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming 2013 season on Wednesday. Cinosky is a member of the US Men’s National team and plays professionally for both the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse and the Minnesota Swarm of the National Lacrosse League.
“We are absolutely thrilled as a staff and a program to have someone of Joe’s caliber joining the program,” Torpey said. “Having coached against Joe, I can tell you he is one of the most competitive people I have met in this sport. His knowledge of the game, his credentials in the sport and his willingness to always look forward and strive to be the best are going to be an incredible asset for the growth of our program.”
Cinosky, a defenseman, was a Major League Lacrosse All-Star in 2009 when he helped to captain the Toronto Nationals to the MLL Championship. He went on the next year and to win his second-consecutive championship, this time with the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Cinosky began the 2012 season with the Denver Outlaws before being traded to the Hounds. Cinosky also plays indoor lacrosse with the Swarm where he was a first round selection in 2008.
Cinosky has been a member of the US Men’s National team since 2009 and helped lead Team USA to victory over Canada at the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships in Manchester, England on July 24.
In addition to playing both professionally and with the US National Team, Cinosky served as the head coach of the University of Minnesota Club Lacrosse team from 2010-12 and compiled a 23-18 record. This past season, Cinosky guided the Gophers to a 9-7 record and an appearance in the Upper Midwest Lacrosse League Championship.
Cinosky graduated from the University of Maryland in 2008 with a degree in criminology. He was an NCAA Division I All-American and first-team All-ACC selection in 2008. Cinosky was also a two-time preseason All-American and was twice included on the watch list for the Tewaaraton Trophy, awarded to the nation’s best player.
Cinosky is originally from Boonton Township, N.J., where he played at Mountain Lake High School for legendary coach Tim Flynn. He was a three-time All-State selection, a two-time High School Defenseman of the Year for the state of New Jersey and a two-time All-American. He also led his prep team to three-consecutive New Jersey State Championships.
