The Hoppers are in the doldrums right now.

Technically, that’s a term used for periods of calm wind over an ocean. If you’re sailing, it means you’re not going anywhere. If you’re playing baseball, it means your team is stagnant.

Hickory beat the Greensboro 7-6 Monday night, handing the Hoppers their fourth loss in five games. A nine-game home stand that began with three straight wins has sagged to 4-4. The Hoppers have one more chance to pull out a winning record when they play Tuesday night.
