Lowell dominant with quicker tempo

There was thunder and lightning all around NewBridge Bank Park Monday night but the real electricity came from the mound.

Left-hander Charlie Lowell pitched brilliantly for the second straight outing, setting the tone for a game the Hoppers ultimately won over Kannapolis 8-3.

Lowell was perfect through five innings and had a no-hitter through 6 2/3 before surrendering a home run and settling for seven innings of one-hit, one-run baseball. In his previous start, last Thursday against Hagerstown, he threw no-hit ball for six innings. He wound up being charged with two runs in the seventh and received no decision. This time he was the winner to even his record at 4-4.
