Coach Ruffin McNeill Announces Disciplinary Action Following Arrest
NT TERRY WILLIAMS SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY FROM ECU FOOTBALL PROGRAM
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina sophomore nose tackle Terry Williams has been
suspended indefinitely from all team activities effective immediately following a drug-related arrest according to an announcement from head football coach Ruffin McNeill Thursday afternoon.
The decision came hours after McNeill and ECU athletics officials were made aware of
late Wednesday night charges of possession of marijuana and intent to sell released
by the Simpson (N.C.) Police Department.
“I have suspended Terry as a result of a poor decision and conduct that is certainly
not in line with the standards we have in place at East Carolina,” McNeill said.
“Representing this university and playing in our program is a privilege and everyone will be held accountable to earn that right. Naturally, I’m disappointed and frustrated by this
development, but we will continue to mentor and guide our players to the best of
our ability, although it isn’t always an exact process.”
Williams, who prepped at Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., was projected to
serve as a top reserve in the center of the Pirates’ front line this season after
playing in 11 games as a redshirt freshman a year ago. He was credited with 31 tackles, two forced fumbles, one recovered fumble and a quarterback hurry in 2011.
