It’s been a great season for Kyle Brandenburg(Ragsdale HS/GTCC) with the Thomasville Hi-Toms

WILSON – Kyle Brandenburg(Ragsdale HS/GTCC) knows success doesn’t come easy. After a tough season at Guilford Tech, he has become one of the top players for the Thomasville HiToms this season, driven by plenty of hard work and a little good fortune.

“The main thing for me is to have fun out there, have fun with your teammates, play for the Lord and play for my teammates,” said Brandenburg, a former standout at Ragsdale who will play at High Point University. “It’s been a fun season. Just being with the guys and the team, it’s been awesome.”

From the get-go, he has been a big key for the HiToms. In their 46 games so far, he has played in 43 and started 42, leading the team in batting average (.307), on-base percentage (.370), hits (50), total bases (69) and stolen bases (7). He’s also tied for the lead in triples (1) and home runs (4).

He is second in the Coastal Plain League in hits and 14th in batting average, in large part earning him a selection in Monday’s CPL All-Star Game in Wilson and a starting nod in the center field. But while his hitting is impressive in itself, his versatility is really what makes him stand out.

  1. If my memory serves me correctly, Kyle didn’t make all-area as a senior out of Ragsdale but made all-state. (explain that?) Congratualtions to Kyle and it’ll be fun watching him at HPU.

  2. He did. He redshirted there.

As to making all-state but not all area, just more of the same local baseball politics. Not many kids out there have been timed at a pro baseball combine by pro scouts at 6.3 in the 60, TWICE. And some area coaches here said he couldn’t play, one in particular. See how that turned out.

  3. I am very happy for Kyle. He worked very hard for us at GTCC the past 2 years and is just an overall great kid. He deserves all the success he is having now and will have in the future. HPU got a steal in Kyle and his best baseball is in front of him. I am looking forward to watching and keeping up with him over the next few seasons.

  4. Congratulations to Kyle! He is a hard worker with a great attitude. He is so deserving of his success.

@gofigure: So true. Don’t ya love it when a kid who is not exalted by his high school coaches or fought over by college recruiters, works his butt off and shows everyone what he is capable of?! Glad he is making the most of his opportunities.
